Parkes is a small town located in Great Dividing Range in NSW approximately 365km west of Sydney. It is a town with a dynamic and significant history and is a hub for industry and mining as well as crop, wool and livestock production. Parkes is also known for its big-dish antenna radio telescope, the largest in the southern hemisphere and played a big role in the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.
Parkes was made famous by two big gold rushes at the end of the 19th Century. The first was in 1862 when gold was discovered. Nearly overnight a tent city of almost 10,000 sprung up. During the second gold rush of 1871 1400kg of gold was mined. It was one of the richest gold producing areas in NSW and drew many people from the region. The gold rush set in motion infrastructure being erected, including the now heritage listed Post Office of 1880 that Westwood Roofing is involved in restoring the slate tiles.
Westwood Roofing is not only delighted to have our sound team of skilled and master tradesmen working on the century old Parkes Post Office Heritage site, but proud to be chosen as the roofing restoration specialists for this historic and remarkable building. It was a 4 week project which involved taking off the old existing slate and relaying recycled slate to match.
